Two suspects arrested for highjacking a vehicle in Barberton

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) Officers, in conjunction with the South African Police Services (SAPS) Dog Unit and Alberton Reaction Unit, Fox and CPS Security Company, arrested two suspects for hijacking a motor vehicle at the corner of Vlei and Paul Sehlogo Street, in the Alberton area.

Members received information from a crime fighting reaction group, that is working in conjunction with a vehicle tracking company, of a white Isuzu light delivery vehicle (LDV) that was reported hijacked and kidnapped the driver at 09:30, on the Geldenhuys interchange on the N3 split, by two suspects who were driving a silver-grey Toyota sedan. They immediately acted on the information, and working together with the vehicle tracking company, the suspects were cornered at Vlei and Paul Sehlogo Street in Alberton.

The two South African male suspects, aged 44 and 45, whom one was driving the white hijacked motor vehicle, and the other one was driving the silver-grey Toyota sedan, were both arrested and taken to Alberton Police station where they were charged with Hijacking and kidnapping.

This has become a trend in Alberton where they highjack courier light delivery vehicles (LDV’s) between 09:00 to 14:00. The two suspects will appear at Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon, and the vehicle was taken to Aeroton Police yard for safe keeping.
