Robbery victim shot in Ottawa

A 23 year old man was shot multiple times during a robbery on Old Main Road in Ottawa – KZN.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on scene at approximately 06:11 and located the victim in the overgrown vegetation next to the road. Upon examination, he was found to have been shot twice in his abdomen and once on his left leg.

He informed Reaction Officers that he is employed at a construction company. He left his residence in Amouti – KZN and was walking to the construction site in Ottawa – KZN. A white VW Polo suddenly stopped and three occupants exited the vehicle. They produced firearms and robbed him of his Huawei cellphone and lunch bag before they fired multiple shots at him.

Fourteen spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene. The victim was in possession of a large cane knife. He informed Officers that he carried the weapon for protection.

The seriously injured male was stabilised on scene by RUSA Paramedics before being expedited to hospital by ambulance.
