Tzaneen police arrest male suspect in connection with fatal stabbing in Mopye Village

A 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing incident that occurred on Sunday, 28 July 2024 at Mopye village in Tzaneen policing area.

Police and emergency medical services responded to a report of a stabbing at about 23:00 at a liquor outlet. Upon arrival, police officers found a 50-year-old man with multiple stab wounds in the yard. The victim was certified dead at the scene.

Through diligent investigation and cooperation from the community, the detectives traced and arrested the suspect who resides in the same village.

Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was stabbed after he got into an argument with the suspect.

The motive behind the incident will be determined through ongoing police investigation.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 30 July 2024 to face a charge of murder.
