Swift police action results in the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of firearms and stolen property

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata commended the sterling efforts of Kariega K9 members in speedily arresting a suspect and recovering two firearms (one gas pistol) as well as suspected stolen property taken during a house robbery in Kamesh on Monday 29 July 2024 in Rosedale.

It is alleged that on the abovementioned date at approximately 04:15, the complainant was awake and in bed in Acacia Road in Rosedale in Kamesh when she heard a loud noise outside. When she peeped through the window, she noticed approximately six males entering her yard. Her front door was kicked opened. While she hid, her boyfriend was threatened and assaulted. Laptops, TV sets and cellphones were taken.

Kariega K9 unit acted on information received and at about 14:15, a house in Kiva Street, Kwanobuhle, was penetrated. An outbuilding was searched and two TV sets, two laptops, two cellphones and two firearms (a 7.365mm pistol and a Beretta 9mm firearm) and a gas pistol were confiscated. A 25-year-old suspect was detained on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of suspected stolen property.

The property was positively identified as the stolen property taken in the house robbery. Investigations are continuing and detectives are probing his possible link to the house robbery.

The suspect will appear in the Kwanobuhle magistrate court during the week.
