A 54-year-old taxi owner has been arrested after the execution of a search warrant by Tactical Response Team members in Gonubie on Thursday 01 August 2024.
Police acted on information about a man in possession of drugs and unlicensed firearm, and they executed the search warrant in a house at Mzamomhle Township, Gonubie outside East London yesterday at approximately 17:00. Police approached the house and informed the owner on the search warrant they obtained, and upon searching, they found an unlicensed firearm, SAPS uniform belts, and various assorted rounds of ammunition. On investigation police discovered that the firearm’s serial number had been filed off, and they arrested the suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm. He is further charged for failure to safeguard his own firearm and ammunition, and it (a 9mm Taurus) was confiscated by police. However, Police investigation is continuing.
As soon as he is charged, he will appear at East London Magistrate’s Court.
The District Commissioner Major General Christopher Wright appreciates the valuable information shared by the public and also the Tactical Response Team that didn’t waste any time in arresting those who break the law. He is sending a strong message to the community that the Police will not go over with a fine-tooth comb in ensuring that those involved in criminal activities are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
