Reborn Chiloane (31) and Regomoditswe Mmethi (29) appeared before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 7 August 2024, in connection with an alleged business robbery at Brits Mall. They were both employees at the shop where the robbery took place.
According to information received, the shop had just opened on Monday, 29 July 2024 at about 08:00 and the employees were still entering the shop, when two suspects came inside the shop and threatened them with firearms. They were ordered to hand over cash and also took cellphones and laptops before they fled from the shop.
On Wednesday, 7 August 2024, information was received and operationalised by police, leading to the arrest of Chiloane and Mmethi. Police also seized eight stolen cellphones and two laptops.
Furthermore, a third suspect, aged 35, was arrested on Thursday, 8 August 2024, by the dedicated police investigators. All three suspects will appear before the Brits Magistrates Court on Monday, 12 August 2024, on a charge of business robbery.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated Brits Detectives for acting swiftly and arresting the suspects. He said police will continue to work hard to ensure that criminals are put behind bars.
