He faces a charge of the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile Philippi East police members were busy with patrols when they noticed a vehicle driving at high speed. The members responded which resulted in a high speed chase. They forced the driver to stop the vehicle in Sheffield Road where they conducted a search on both occupants and confiscated a 9mm Norinco pistol with ammunition in possession of the 39-year-old man who was arrested.

The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bellville and Athlone Magistrates’ Court once charged for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
