Crime Intelligence operation conducted regarding a number of firearms that were purchased and stored at a suspect’s premises in an estate in the Hillcrest area

Information was received from Crime Intelligence regarding a number of firearms that were purchased and stored at a suspect’s premises in an estate in the Hillcrest area.

Crime Intelligence, together with the Metro Police Drug Team and other role players, conducted observations on the location, property, and targets.

Due to the nature of the threat and time constraints, a search warrant was obtained for the location to ensure entry into the estate without resistance. The search warrant was granted by the magistrates’ court, allowing for entry without alarming the suspects.

Upon entering the property, the team encountered an adult female resident, who was the only person present. After producing the search warrant and asking her to declare any illegal items, she stated there were none.

During the search, two handguns were found, along with various calibers of live ammunition. Upon further questioning, the female resident led the team to a garage where a safe was opened, revealing a double-barrel shotgun.

The suspect could not produce any firearm license for the possession of these firearms. The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and transported to the local SAPS.
