A 32 year old man accused of theft was seriously injured after he was kidnapped, assaulted and dumped for dead in Temple Valley – KZN.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls for assistance from the public. According to one caller, a group of males in three vehicles were beating a man to death on Pakco Street.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 13:52. Officers located the seriously injured individual in a dense bush on the side of the road. He sustained a fracture to his right leg & left arm as well as head injuries.
The man explained that a large group of males confronted and accused him of theft. They began assaulting him with metal pipes before they loaded him into one of the vehicles. They proceeded to an unknown location where the assault continued. The male lost consciousness after one of his attackers strangled him. He regained consciousness a short while later but played dead. He overheard the men making arrangements to discard his body on the railway line.
The men drove in three vehicles to an overhead bridge where they realised that the male was still alive. They removed him from the car and continued assaulting him but his screams for assistance drew attention from the public. Picture 3 was captured by a member of the public and shows a Renault and VW Touareg used in the kidnapping/attempted murder. A white/silver Toyota Corolla sped off prior to the picture being captured. The man denied allegations that he is a thief and informed Reaction Officers that he survives on handouts from the public.
The seriously injured male was stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance.
