Kimberley Tactical Response Team, led by Warrant Officer Tshepo Lucas, Warrant Officer Goodman Sipho Mantyi and Constable Matshisi Phillips, followed up on information received regarding a business burglary where clothes worth approximately R40 000-00 were stolen during the early hours of the morning on Monday, 26 August 2024 from two retail establishments in Phakamile Mabija Road.
The team operationalised the information, and at the identified premises in Chris Hani Park, Barkly Road, a male person was found who granted police permission to search the premises.
The members conducted the search and found a bag full of clothes with price tags still attached, and another bag was found full of clothes inside an unused refrigerator.
The male person could not give a satisfactory explanation as to how he obtained the clothes. The 28-year-old old suspect was subsequently arrested for business burglary.
The suspect led the police to the second house, also in Chris Hani Park, Barkly Road, where a large green bag was found with two (2) Adidas backpacks inside and were also confiscated
The suspect then led the police to the third house in Meriting Street, Phutanang, where a bag containing clothes with price tags was found. However, no suspect was found on the premises.
The Acting Frances Baard District Commissioner, Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana, commended the members for their swift response in recovering the stolen items and thanked the community members for providing the police with valuable information that led to the arrest of the suspect.
