Ongoing KwaZulu-Natal police operations to rid Inanda and the surrounding areas of violent crimes including murder, attempted murder, rape and armed robberies have led to yet another breakthrough when six suspects who were wanted for a string of murder cases were arrested in uMzinyathi in the early hours of today, Tuesday, 27 August 2024.
Police collected information about the whereabouts of the suspects and the positive intelligence led the police to a house in uMzinyathi where the suspects were in hiding. Six suspects were arrested and police are hot on the heels of the seventh suspect who narrowly evaded arrest. The suspects were wanted for a number of violent crimes including the murder of former ANC Ward 53 secretary Thanduxolo Sthandathu, who was also known as General. The six suspects were found in illegal possession of two firearms, one of which had a serial number filed off. They were also found in possession of two magazines full of ammunition.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 29 years old, will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 28 August 2024. Their arrest follows last week’s arrest of five suspects who are members of a gang which was seen in a viral video carrying guns and shooting randomly in the air at the KwaMashu hostel. The five suspects will also appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
