Three suspects are due to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday, 28 August 2024 following their arrest on Tuesday, 27 August 2024 after they were found in possession of firearms and ammunition at Nhlangwini area.
Police put together an operation following intelligence about a man who was in illegal possession of firearms. The 24-year-old suspect was traced and found in possession of two firearms and six rounds of ammunition. One firearm had its serial number erased.
The suspect was found with two more men aged 20 and 21 years old, and they were also arrested after they were found in possession of 65 rounds of ammunition of different caliber of firearms. Police had gathered intelligence that the firearms recovered were being hired out to criminals.
The firearms will be taken for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of crimes in and around the province.
