Multiple firearms confiscated during Operation Shanela

Members attached to Joe Gqabi District’s continued efforts to eradicate the proliferation of unlicensed firearms yielded success during the month of August 2024 as 10 suspects were arrested, 9 firearms and 232 live rounds were confiscated in unrelated incidents.

In August month police together with private security companies took part in Operation Shanela with the aim to combat and prevent crime. During the operation Police conducted stop and search, intensified visibility and followed up on positive information.

They then operationalized the information and recovered different firearms (rifles and pistol) and assortment of ammunition in different areas.
