Police high-density (Shanela) operations in Limpopo net 428 suspects

Following the ongoing Police high-density operations conducted in Limpopo from 26 August to 01 September 2024, a total of 428 suspects were arrested across the province for various offenses. During these high density operation a total of seven (07) firearms with forty-five (45) ammunition were confiscated while three (03) stolen motor or hijacked vehicles were recovered.

Suspects were arrested for offenses that included murder, attempted murder, rape and other sexual offences, armed robberies, illicit mining, malicious damage to properties, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, theft of motor vehicles, possession of suspected stolen properties, contravention of immigration act, dealing in drugs and possession of dagga.

Operations were executed through the roadblocks, high visibility patrols, stop and searches, and tracing of wanted suspects, amongst other duties. The members also recovered copper cables, counterfeit goods, and dangerous weapons.

In addition, 369 suspects were arrested for contravention of immigration act. Drugs such as crystal meth, cocaine, dagga, dagga plants, and Nyaope were seized.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrests and applauded all law enforcement officers who participated during the operations as we continue to adopt a zero tolerance against criminal activities within our province.

The suspects have already started to appear in different magistrate courts around the province.
