An intelligence driven operation conducted by Majola Tactical Team led to the arrest of two male suspects aged 22 and 30 years for possession of unlicensed firearms in Qubuswayo locality, Machibi A/A in Port St Johns yesterday, 04 September 2024.
After police received information they operationalized and proceeded to the identified address in the locality. Upon arrival they found a 30-year-old suspect in possession of two unlicensed firearms, a 9mm Glock pistol with ammunition and a Shotgun. On investigation they linked him to cases of business robbery and murder which both occurred in August 2024 in the Port St Johns policing precincts. Firearms recovered from him will be sent for ballistic tests to check whether he can be linked to other committed crimes. The other suspect (22) was found in possession of a prohibited homemade firearm.
Both suspects were arrested and are appearing at Port St Johns magistrate court on Friday, 06 September 2024, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, business robbery and murder.
The OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Pumzile Cetyana applauded his members for the sterling job in arresting the suspects and confiscating unlicensed firearms that are always used in serious and violent crimes.
