A 38-year-old woman delivered a baby girl after she went into labour while shopping in the Verulam CBD – KZN.
A member of the public contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre requesting medical assistance for the woman. On arrival, RUSA Paramedics discovered that the female had delivered a healthy baby girl with assistance from onlookers.
It was established that the heavily pregnant female was shopping in the Central Business District when she started experiencing contractions. She proceeded towards the Verulam Taxi Rank with the intention of boarding a taxi to hospital, but the contractions became unbearable. The child was delivered on the corner of Ireland and George Sewpersad Street.
The mother and child were transported to hospital by ambulance for further medical intervention.
