This comes after four other men – three of them also police officers – were nabbed by the DPCI’s Serious Corruption Investigation unit on Sunday.
They had apparently extorted money from a shop owner in Phoenix.
The gang allegedly raided the complainant’s shop for cigarettes, before “arresting” him.
They demanded R100-thousand to return the cigarettes and release him.
Almost R80-thousand was arranged by his wife and the suspects were arrested by the DPCI members after the exchange.
All eight are expected in court today.
