MEC Violet Mathye, in a meeting with Members of Mayoral Committees – MMCs of Municipalities in the Province, to discuss an array of issues that relate to the disbursement of operating licenses for the taxi industry.
This process is aimed to uplift a moratorium on the administering of operating licenses, for the taxi industry.
In the past 15 years, the Department has only issued a handful of new operating licenses, because most municipalities’ had not concluded their ITPs.
Today’s meeting is meant to kick-start a process where the Department will help Municipalities to conclude their Integrated Transport Plans – ITPs, which serve as a blue print, to guide the Department in its allocation of operating licenses, for the industry.
