High-density Operation Shanela stamps the authority of the State in Dennilton policing precinct

A high-density Operation “Shanela”, was conducted in the Dennilton policing area, Sekhukhune District, from Friday night, 13 September 2024 until the early hours of Saturday, 14 September 2024. The operation yielded a significant number of arrests and seizures, including an illegal firearm, a stolen motor vehicle, illicit cigarettes and drugs amongst others.

The operation was conducted following a stakeholder meeting between the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, and the management team to address crime concerns in the area, following a recent mob justice attack resulting in the death of two unknown men.

The notable successes of Operation Shanela include the arrest of seven suspects, aged between 24 and 44, arrested for crimes ranging from possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a presumed stolen motor vehicle, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of Nyaope drugs and dagga, driving under the influence of alcohol and contravention of the Immigration Act amongst others.

Furthermore, several fines were issued for public drinking and illegal gambling.

The suspects are expected to appear before Moutse Magistrate’s Court soon.

“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to address crime and ensuring public safety in the Dennilton policing area and surrounding communities,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

“The police will continue to work around the clock and ensure that criminals in Dennilton policing precinct are removed and put behind bars. The rule of law and order shall prevail without fear or favour,” added Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

Further operations are planned to maintain the momentum and keep the community safe.
