MEC Mathye welcomsles the SAPS 1st quarter crime statistics

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Violet Mathye, has welcomed the 2024/25 1st Quarter crime statistics, as presented by the SAPS Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe.

The MEC has also used the occasion of the release of the statistics, to encourage the Provincial Commissioner and her team, to continue to work harder to ensure that the Limpopo Province remains safe.

According to MEC Mathye, ‘the 2% increase, as compared to the same period in the previous financial year, is quite insignificant considering that major forms of crime continue to be under control’.

She also applauded the Police, for the meticulous work, on the investigations of the Sebayeng farm murders, where Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu, were brutally killed and their corpses fed to pigs.

The report indicates a decrease in the cases of gender-based violence, which the MEC said are ‘pointing to the police’s capability to react diligently to crime incidents’.

“The non-occurrence of activities of a cash-in-transit nature, is largely attributable to the Makhado incident, where the Police have ambushed a group of criminals who were involved in this type of crime”, the MEC said.

The MEC has also committed that, for its part ‘the Department of Transport and Community Safety, will ensure that Community Police and Safety Forums are fully-functional, because they are critical components in fighting crimes like house burglaries and robberies in residential areas’.
