A man who allegedly raped a disabled Northdale woman was nabbed after a joint operation between Mi7 Strategic Threat Response Unit members and Mountain Rise police officers.
On Friday morning, information was received regarding the whereabouts of a suspect allegedly linked to a housebreaking and rape incident which occurred in Northdale earlier in the week.
The details of the vehicle the suspect was travelling in was circulated and teams relied on the Mi7 Surveillance Net – a system of surveillance cameras equipped with Navic’s Automatic Number Plate Recognition software spanning 100 locations in the Midlands region – to find it.
Eventually, the vehicle was flagged by the system in Northdale. The team strategically positioned themselves at several locations and after a short while, were able to spot and intercept the driver.
The victim positively identified the suspect and the matter was handed over to the police for further investigation.
