Prieska SAPS removes drugs from the streets

The drug trade in Prieska was dealt a blow after Prieska Crime Prevention Unit members arrested three suspects and seized mandrax tablets and crystal meth (tik) with an estimated street value of R 57 000-00, on Sunday, 22 September 2024.

The members were conducting crime prevention duties when they received information about a person who was allegedly in possession of drugs in an open field in E’thembani, Prieska.

The members operationalised the information and found a male person fitting the description.

He was searched, and mandrax tablets and a transparent plastic bag with crystal meth (tik) was found in his possession. The 27-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested for possession of drugs.

Thereafter, members spotted an unknown male running through the bushes, who was stopped and searched which resulted in the recovery of mandrax tablets and a transparent plastic bag with crystal meth (tik) in his possession. The 24-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs.

The search actions continued, which led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man, for possession of suspected stolen property, after he was found in possession of a garden hose, and was unable to provide an explanation regarding the ownership of the hose.

All three arrested suspects will appear before Prieska Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 25 September 2024.

The Pixley Ka Seme District Commissioner Major General Nomana Mtukushe applauded the members who acted swiftly and apprehended the perpetrators.

The police encouraged the public to rate the police efforts in fighting crime by participating in the “RATE OUR SERVICE” online survey to assist the police in improving services.
