Fraudster in court for more than R1 million speedpoint machine fraud

A-27-years old suspect will appear before Mthatha Regional Court on 25 September 2024. The suspect was arrested by the Queenstown based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks on Monday, 23 September 2024 for allegations of fraud.

It is alleged that the complainant, a Tsomo Hotel owner was approached by someone who introduced himself as an employee of Yoco Technology (Pty) Ltd. The person is reported to have sold three speed point machines for R3500 to the complainant.

It is further alleged that after a few months of using these speed point machines, the complainant realised that the sales money was not going into their business account and decided to open a case of fraud with the Hawks.

The investigations ensued and revealed that the bank account where the sales money was going into, belonged to the arrested suspect residing in East London Kidd’s Beach. The transactions worth R1.2 million took place between July and September 2023.The investigations culminated in the arrest of the suspect on 23 September 2024.The suspect will make his first court appearance on 25 September 2024.

The swift response and proper utilisation of expert investigation skills by the team is commended by the Provincial Head Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya.
