The determination by the Western Cape police to get rid of drugs and illegal firearms in our communities which are the sources of criminal activities and to put the perpetrators of the law behind bars has once again paid off when three suspects were arrested.
On Wednesday, 02 October 2024, members attached to Maitland Flying Squad received information about drugs and firearms at an residence in Parklands, Table View. The members attended to the address and upon arrival the suspect ran away when he noticed the SAPS vehicle approaching.
The members got inside the premises and they seized 1118,6 grams of tik, 46,5 grams of cocaine and seven ecstasy tablets. They also found an imitation firearm, two magazines and 9mm rounds of ammunition in the premises.
Two suspects aged 42 and 52 were arrested and detained at Table View SAPS on charges of dealing in drugs, possession of an imitation firearm and ammunition. The estimated street value of the drugs is R100 000.
Meanwhile on the same day at around 23:40 Manenberg SAPS members were looking for a suspect in Manenberg Avenue, when they noticed a premises that looked suspicious, and they got inside and ensued with a search. During the search they found mandrax tablets, a firearm with its serial number removed and 9mm rounds of ammunition.
A 29-year-old man was arrested for the possession of drugs, a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Investigation also revealed that the suspect is also attending court for murder and attempted murder.
The three suspects will appear in the Athlone and Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges.
