Female suspect arrested for unlawful possession of four firearms

Members of the Police tasked for Operation Vala Umgodi in Mpumalanga, arrested a female suspect from the Kingdom of Eswatini for unlawful possession of four firearms in Barberton on Tuesday, 01 October 2024.

Members were busy with their routine patrol at Sinqobile village when they saw three suspicious males sitting outside the house.

Police stopped to investigate and before they could question them, the three males took to their heels.

Members then went back to the house where the said woman was found. A search inside the house was conducted and it was during this period when the astute members discovered four firearms i.e. three pistols (Norinco, Glock, and Z88), as well as one shotgun. The men and women in Blue also found an explosive device concealed underneath the bed.

The serial numbers for the three pistols were filed off.

Further than that, 32 sounds of ammunition as well as dagga was also confiscated.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the three suspects who fled the scene.

Meanwhile the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi commended members for their excellent work. “We are elated that members possibly prevented the loss of life as a result of these lethal weapons,” said the General.
