Operation Shanela detains a suspect for the possession of drugs

The swift response of police members of Operation Shanela deployed in the Western Cape to combat the ongoing gang violence resulted in the detention of a 35-year-old man in possession drugs.

The members conducted an intelligence driven operation on Monday, 07 October 2024, and gathered information about an unidentified man in a white minibus taxi delivering a consignment daily at a home in 3rd Avenue in Grassy Park. The police members noticed the suspicious minibus and instructed the driver to halt, searched the driver and the vehicle and in the process confiscated a plastic bag containing mandrax tablets.

The convoy proceeded to the identified address, where a search ensued which resulted in the recovery 40 sachets filled with methamphetamine,137g of heroin and 27 000 mandrax tablets.

They detained a 35-year-old man for the illegal possession of drugs, who is expected to make a court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrate’s court once he has been charged.
