Today, Friday 11 October 2024, three suspects, aged between 25 and 44, were arrested by the Police in connection with the shooting incident.

Police continue to maintain high visibility in the area, whilst conducting thorough assessment of the situation in order to beef up resources if need be, following the tragic shooting as conflicts erupted amongst certain groups in the Nkomazi area near Komatipoort.

The three are expected to appear at the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga on Monday, 14 October 2024.

The confiscated firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they were not previously used in the commission of crime elsewhere hence Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects as the investigation continues.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended members of the Police for their swift response, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of two rifles and a pistol. The General further emphasized that the arrest of the suspects should serve as a sign that the SAPS mean business when it comes to issues of crime, and lawlessness will never be tolerated.
