A five-year-old used in a robbery tactic in Trenance Park

A Robbery suspect used a five-year-old child to lure a seventy-eight-year-old victim and then robbed her of gold bangles.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received the call for assistance this morning at approximately 08:56 from a resident on Madrona Drive in Trenance Park – Kwazulu Natal.

Paramedics and Reaction Officers arrived on scene and interviewed the grandmother who explained that while she was conducting chores on her property, a male known to her as a local drug user called out to her from her nieghbours yard. The man pointed to a female child that was now on her property and asked that the child be passed over the fence.

The victim added that she was uncertain as to how the child had got into her yard, but walked over and passed the the
girl over the fence. At that stage, the suspect grabbed her hand and forcefully removed her gold bangles and fled. The woman suffered injuries to her arms and hand.

When Reaction Officers canvassed the area, it was established that the suspect was known. He had entered the victims neighbours yard, where he regularly visits. At some stage he carried the child and placed her over the fence into the victims yard to lure her. The man is a habitual criminal.

Reaction Officers are tracking the suspect.
