Firearms and drugs seized in Eldorado Park Operation Shanela

Eldorado Park residents can breathe a sigh of relief after the Police arrested 69 suspects in a major operation.

A joint Provincial Operation Shanela conducted by the SAPS in Eldorado Park, resulted in 69 arrests on Thursday 24 October 2024.

Participating stakeholders included various security companies, SAPS members from different stations, Eldorado Park CI, detectives, patrollers, CPF’s, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, JMPD Metro Police and the Department of Community Safety.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni led the operation alongside Operational Commander General Kekana and Brigadier Maluleke.

The law enforcement officials were grouped and assigned to various phases of the operation, these included the detective suspect raiding team, roadblock on Golden Highway/Bushkoppies, raiding of lolly lounges/drugs, illegal firearms and illegal immigrants.

Phase one saw a suspect raiding operation by detective, which led to the arrest of two suspects for assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm, one for car hijacking, four cases of assault on police, one malicious damage to property, pointing of firearm and common assault.

At least 26 illegal foreign nationals were arrested during the phase two of the operation, a roadblock at the Golden Highway led by the Commander Brigadier Nevhuhulwi.

Group two led by Brigadier Maharaj conducted raiding of lolly lounges, drugs, illegal firearms, illegal immigrants and stop and searches, nabbing 17 suspects.

The liquor and second hands goods compliance team was led by Brigadier Maake, made 16 arrests.

Three suspects were arrested for dealing in liquor without licence, two for contravention of second hands goods Act and 11 illegal immigrants.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, five for possession of drugs, eight illegal immigrants and one for business burglary.

Confiscations included:

– Firearms and ammunition, two 9mm pistols, two magazines and 82 live 9mm rounds of ammunition;

– Eight and a half tablets of mandrax worth R690 and six zip lock bags containing crystal meth valued at R300;

– Liquor

– Car tyres

– 398 persons were searched

– 220 vehicles were searched

– 28 vehicles were tested

– 16 premises were searched

– 22 liquor outlets and 12 second hand goods dealers were visited

– 12 vehicle check points were conducted

– 24 stop and search operations were carried our

– 98 traffic fines were issued

The Eldorado Park SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Maluleke, expressed his sincere gratitude to all the stakeholders involved in this coordinated effort, highlighting the importance of collaboration in ensuring community safety and upholding the rule of law. He further re-iterated that without the assistance of the community, the SAPS would not have made all these arrests.
