Police in the Western Cape are tightening the net in an effort to eradicate the illegal distribution and depletion of living marine resources which threatens the economy of the country and furthermore contributes to the commission of serious crime.
Police members attached to Operation Restore, deployed in the Western Cape to combat crime, reacted to information of suspicious activities at a premises in Parklands on Monday 28 October 2024. They monitored the location and conducted a search and seizure operation at the residence in Carlton Crescent at about 11:30 which resulted in the recovery of 1824 units of abalone with an estimated street value of R700 000,00. Three males between the ages of 23 and 45 were detained for the possession of abalone without a valid permit.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charge.
