Police members detain suspects in possession of a prohibited firearm, ammunition and possession of presumed stolen property

Police members detained four suspects in isolated incidents when they were found in possession of a prohibited firearm, ammunition, presumed stolen property and an imitation firearm.

Police members were busy with disruptive stop and search operations in Barcelona informal settlement on Monday 28 October 2024 when they followed up on information at their disposal and entered a home in the informal settlement where they searched the occupants and in the process confiscated a 9mm pistol and ammunition. They detained a 31-year-old man for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated intervention Nyanga police responded to a request to share a location with an E-hailing driver on Tuesday 29 October 2024. The police members warned the man of the dangers. However, he persisted and the members opted to followed him into the area. When they approached the identified area they saw three suspicious men which they approached tactically and caught them in the act, busy communicating with accomplices to rob the approaching E-hailing driver. The police members detained the three males for the possession of presumed stolen property, attempted robbery and the possession of an imitation firearm.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
