Both Combat and Proactive teams were busy with patrols and observation duties at Beatrix Mine area when they received a tip-off about an African male in possession of suspected stolen property.
The team followed up the information and the target fitting the description was spotted on Phakathi Drive in Thabong near Welkom. The suspect was stopped and the police conducted a search. Thirty bottles of Luvigen and thirty bottles of Myteladov tablets were found in the possession of the suspect. The members visited the local pharmacy and the pharmacist confirmed that the seized medicine was indeed Antiretrovirals.
A case of possession of suspected stolen property with an additional charge of Contravention of Medicines and Controlled Substances Act was opened at Thabong Police Station. The suspect was then detained in police custody.
The 41-year-old male will appear before Court soon.
