Head of Department for Community Safety and Transport Management, Dr Hans Kekana and HOD for Public Works and Roads, Mr Moses Kgantsi led the task team meeting for the re-operationalisation of the Pilanesberg International Airport.
This, as the country prepares to host the G-20 Summit in November 2025, which will be mainly hosted in Gauteng.
However, Sun City has been identified as part of the city region that will host some of preparatory meetings and workshops of the summit.
This then requires prioritisation of construction of the terminal building and rehabilitation of the runway as well as the tower, including instrumentation that were destroyed during the fire that gutted the airport in 2023. Procurement processes are expected to commence next month.
The Pilanesberg International Airport is located less than 5km from the Sun City Resort. The airport therefore will play a bigger role in processing passengers who will be attending preparatory meetings at the Resort.
