Training Weekend – SARZA Lowveld
Training was held this weekend from 15 to 17 November 2024 at Queens River Adventure Camp which presented the perfect opportunity for our members to become familiar with their equipment and abilities.
Theoretical training ranged from helicopter safety and procedures to the hoisting and safe recovery of a patient.
Practical training comprised of patient packaging and make shift bridal preparation from equipment on hand.
The team was joined by two members from SAAF led by WO Nel to meet the team and get some more insight to who we are and what our capabilities are.
Additional training was conducted on map navigation, GPS Navigation and survival skills in the field. This was achieved by doing a 25km hike over two days on a very challenging trail in the Barberton Mountains. 24 Hours packs were tested and the team survived the night through electrical and hail storms after the decent of 802m into the valley. The team navigated back to the main camp on Sunday morning surviving a climb of 505m along the route.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who joined on this amazing opportunity and especially Queens River Adventure Camp for the use of their property and facilities.
