The municipal K9 unit, in collaboration with the South African Police Service, confiscated narcotics with a street value of R 411 800 during a drug raid at a house in Adriaans Ave, KwaNonqaba last week. This included 388g of tik, 602g of cocaine and 707 mandrax tablets.
In The municipal K9 unit, established in 2023 currently consists of seven Belgian Malinois dogs and their handlers. The dogs are trained to sniff out narcotics, ammunition and endangered species. A 37 year old suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
In September 2024, an memorandum of agreement was signed between die Provincial Command of the South African Police Service and the Mossel Bay Municipality, officiating the collaboration between the K9 unit and the police as a force multiplier in the fight against crime.
