A 34-year-old male suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, believed to have been used in house robberies in Giyani and Thohoyandou recently, is scheduled to appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 November 2024.
The suspect was apprehended on Friday, 22 November, at Xikukwani village, in Giyani policing area, during a sting operation led by the Mopani District Tracking Team and Crime Prevention members from Dzumeri Satellite Police Station.
This followed the arrest of two suspects on Thursday, 21 November 2024, in connection with the house robberies.
Investigations revealed that the firearms allegedly used in the commission of these crimes were owned by the suspects’ friend. The police team subsequently proceeded to the friend’s residence, where they discovered and confiscated two unlicensed firearms.
The suspect will appear in court on Monday, along with the two house robbery suspects, facing a charge of unlawful possession of firearms.
The investigation into the house robberies continues.
