Earlier today, a fire broke out on Chapman’s Peak, and our Fire & Rescue assisted NCC and Table Mountain National Park. Choppers bombed the higher peaks, and the fire was brought under control.
At the same time, a fire broke out in Drakenstein but under harsh conditions, a “Code Red” was called this evening.
We have gathered our surrounding municipalities and have entered into a collaborative agreement- when under extreme conditions and a municipality needs urgent support, we can call a “Code Red.” This means then that all us signatories step up where we can.
We have taken one of our fire engines and a water tanker from our backup fleet and have sent them through to Paarl fire station now.
All the best to all the crews out there tonight
