Fire extinguished in the mountains behind Muizenberg

Just past 09h00, a fire was spotted high above and into the mountains behind Muizenberg.

With a moderate wind, mountain fires can rip through vegetation within minutes and spread rapidly. Our urban fringe is always expanding and with more communities built close onto the mountain side, we couldn’t wait.

We deployed our aerial firefighting resources to support SANParks in the Table Mountain National Park. With our spotter plane circling above, both firefighting helicopters were guided on where to make the strategic water drops.

By 10h55, the City of Cape Town’s aerial firefighting resources stood down, as ground crews continue to monitor the area.

This summer, we leave nothing to chance.
