With the arrival of the festive season, Mi7 National Group is stepping up its efforts to ensure the safety and security of Pietermaritzburg residents and businesses. Historically, this period has seen an increase in opportunistic crime due to heightened foot traffic, increased cash flow in retail environments, and the bustling activity of shoppers and visitors in the city. In response, Mi7 National Group has launched a dedicated Mountain Bike (MTB) Unit and expanded its security presence in the CBD and surrounding suburbs.
The newly established MTB Unit consists of 10 highly trained Guarding Officers patrolling the busy streets of the Pietermaritzburg CBD on bicycles – dispatched from today, the 3rd of December.
Acting as an agile deterrent to criminal activity, the team will serve as vigilant “eyes and ears” on the ground, capable of manoeuvring through the crowded streets to address incidents swiftly.
These officers are specifically tasked with responding to crimes perpetrated by criminals on foot, maintaining a close watch over hotspots, and ensuring the safety of shoppers and business owners during this high-traffic period.
This unit will operate in close coordination with Mi7’s Armed Response teams, including the Mi7 Bike Unit-a rapid-response group equipped with motorcycles. The Bike Unit, which will be stationed in the CBD throughout the festive season, provides an added layer of quick-response capability, ensuring that incidents are dealt with promptly and effectively. These efforts are further bolstered by the Mi7 Surveillance Net, an advanced network of high-definition cameras strategically placed across the city to monitor activity and provide real-time intelligence to support ground operations.
In addition to the CBD, Mi7 National Group is allocating extra resources to key suburbs in Pietermaritzburg. This increased visibility aims to deter criminal activity, enhance public safety, and provide residents with peace of mind during the holiday season.
