Police continue arresting suspects for possession of illegal firearms and stolen property as well as drugs

Concerted efforts by members attached to the Provincial Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team paid off when they conducted an intelligence driven operation in Mfuleni which led to the discovery of two firearms and drugs as well as the arrests of those found in possession thereof.

On Wednesday 04 December 2024 at approximately 04:00, members operationalised information about an identified address where firearms were possibly kept. They approached and searched the premises in Gugulethu where they arrested a 34-year-old male for the illegal possession of two prohibited firearms which was confiscated.

Further investigation led them to another premises where they arrested a 33-year-old male for dealing in drugs.

In addition to the above, the members continue to pursue information which led them to a premises situated in Mfuleni where they found a hijacked vehicle for which they arrested two adult males. Upon searching the vehicle they found an imitation firearm as well as a variety of cellular phones believed to be instruments of crime. The members arrested the two suspects for possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of an imitation firearm and possession of presumably stolen property.

The suspects are scheduled to make their court appearances in the Bluedowns and Athlone Magistrates’ courts once charged.
