World Aids Day is observed annually on December 1st to raise awareness about AIDS and HIV, and to mourn those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses.
Intergrated Employee Health and Wellness Directorate (IEHW) from Department of Community Safety and Transport Management together with the external stakeholders namely Department of Health (Naledi Sub-district), Dynamo Rehab Services and Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) came together to commerate this important day at Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District in Vryburg.
Intergrated Employee Health and Wellness deputy director Ms Innocentia Selomane highlighted the purpose of the day, emphasising that the department recognizes World Aids Day with the theme of “Equal Rights, Equal Care. “The importance of protecting human rights in the fight against HIV and AIDS and this year’s theme highlights the need to address the inequalities and injustices that fuel the HIV epidemic,” said Ms Selomane
In contribution to the day, GEMS educated the attendees on different covers the medical aid have and how they can
best use the cover to contribute to their overall wellbeing. Department of Health Practictioner Ms Palesa Nthwa taught and adviced attendees on PrEP, Pep and benefits of utilizing them.
Furthermore Health screening were conducted.
On closing remarks, Chief Provincial Inspector (CPI) Kereng Mmutle applauded the IEHW on a successful event and all the attendees that mamaged to avail themselves. “Dr RSM is the first district to host this event and for that we made a mark in the department. Your presence played a vital role in making sure this initiative becomes a success” said CPI Mmutle.
