Two people, a male and a female who were walking on the N4 toll road from Tenbosch direction towards Komatipoort, were killed on Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle that was moving from Hectorspruit direction towards Komatipoort. The two died at the scene on impact. Six more pedestrians who were hit by the same vehicle sustained serious injuries and they are currently receiving treatment at Tonga Hospital. All the eight are believed to be Mozambican nationals.
The driver of the vehicle involved did not stop at the scene and the law enforcement officers are looking for the driver.
The investigation is underway. Pedestrians are once more advised to be highly cautious when they walk on the road, especially at night. They must also not drink and walk, jay-walk and they need to be visible by wearing bright clothes. They must always ensure that they only cross the road when it is safe to do so.
Motorists on the other hand, must always be on the look out for pedestrians especially in busy areas. They are also called upon to stop at crash scenes or report to the nearest police stations.
