Teenager accused of theft shot in Amoutana

A 18-year-old male was shot in the presence of his father after he was accused of stealing a cellphone.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to Fana Khumalo Street in Amoutana – KZN at approximately 17:47 (Tuesday). On arrival, RUSA Members located the grade 10 student seated on the side of the road.

His intoxicated father informed Reaction Officers that he and his son were at their residence when three known drug dealers confronted them with firearms. One of the men accused the teenager of stealing his cellphone when he was shot by a rival gang on Wednesday (27/11/2024).

The teenager denied the allegations and informed the suspects that he was at the library at the time of the incident. The suspects thereafter opened fire on him before they fled on foot in an unknown direction.

One bullet struck the scholar on his right leg and a second shot grazed his head. He was treated for his injuries on scene before being expedited to hospital by ambulance.

Spent cartridges from two different calibre firearms were recovered at the scene.
