On Monday 13 January 2025 at approximately 22:00 members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in Kensington area when they received information regarding a shooting incident at a premises in Ventura Street. The members swiftly responded to the mentioned address where they spotted an unknown male with a firearm in his hand.
The members tactically approached the suspect who then ran away upon noticing that the police members were approaching. He jumped onto the roof of a residence, ran and jumped into an adjacent yard in Lugmag Street, Kensington. The members saw the suspect pointing a firearm at the members who entered the yard. The members retaliated instantaneously which resulted in the suspect being shot in the right knee. The suspect was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment due to the gunshot wound. The 19 year old suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on a charge of illegally being in possession of a firearm and ammunition as soon he has been charged.
In an unrelated incident on Sunday, 12 January 2025, members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in the Kensington area, gathering information regarding an attempted murder that occurred in Glider Crescent around 17:00, the same day.
The members operationalised the information received which led them to the address as mentioned where they discovered four magazines, 31 rounds of ammunition and one shotgun round. The team then gathered more information which directed them to Vliegtuig Avenue where they discovered two magazines, one Vector pistol, one 38 Special Rossi revolver and a substantial assortment of ammunition of different calibres. The discovery was confiscated but no arrests were made. A docket has been opened for further investigation by detectives attached to the Anti-Gang Unit.
