Anti-Gang unit members apprehend three suspects for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition

Concerted efforts by members attached to the Anti-Gang unit to eradicate the distribution of illegal firearms and ammunition which pose a threat to the safety of communities in the Western Cape, proved successful when they arrested three suspects for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

On Saturday, 11 January 2025 at 10:55, Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) members deployed in Worcester visited-Van Huysteen Avenue after information was received of possible drugs and firearms being kept there. The members conducted a search and seizure operation at the premises and found a 9 mm black pistol with brown handle and 9mm rounds of ammunition inside a cupboard under a grey jersey. As a result of the discovery, the members arrested three males who were found in the vicinity as they were unable to provide legal documents for owning a firearm.

In an unrelated matter, members attached to the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) at Atlantis police were assisting the shifts attending to complaint and on their way to Mortimer Street, Ext 12, Atlantis, they spotted two males walking along the road acting suspiciously. The members stopped and searched the males, and found one of them in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
