On Monday 06 January 2025, at 17:20 the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention, High Speed Unit Officers in conjunction with Crime Intelligence Officers, arrested two (2) male suspects aged thirty (30) and thirty-one (31), for possession, dealing in illicit cigarettes and bribery in the Boksburg area.
While patrolling in the Boksburg area, they received information from Crime Intelligence about a Cash and Carry in the Boksburg area,dealing in suspected illicit cigarettes. Officers acted on the information received and proceeded to the location on Leeupoort street.
Upon arrival, Officers found one (1) male occupant inside the shop and requested to search the premises which the male suspect agreed too. Officers uncovered 1,097 cartons of illicit cigarettes packet in boxes, with the estimated street value of R250 000.
The other male offered the Officers an amount of R4950 to evade arrest and Officers immediately placed the due under arrest. They were detained at Boksburg police station and are expected to appear at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
