Notorious central business district robbers arrested in Verulam

Two notorious robbery suspects were arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) during an intelligence driven operation in the Verulam CBD – KZN.

Victims of multiple robberies were interviewed by Reaction Officers over the past few days in an attempt to identify two men who targeted shoppers in the Verulam Central Business District (CBD). Their modus operandi would be to tackle their victims from the rear.

One suspect would place a knife to the victim’s throat while his accomplice deprives their target of their valuables. Some victims informed RUSA Members that a firearm and a knife were utilised by the robbers.

Reaction Officers recruited informers and intelligence was gathered on both male perpetrators. This morning (Thursday), a tip off from an informer led Officers to the Verulam Bus Rank on Ireland Street in the Verulam CBD – KZN.

Both sought after males were spotted seated next to a car wash. A Reaction Officer kept observation over the suspects while the location was being surrounded. Officers thereafter entered the Bus Rank and nabbed the duo. A replica 9mm pistol and a large dagger was found in their possession.

They were positively identified by an 18-year-old male who was robbed of his cellphone and wallet yesterday (Wednesday). The 26 and 23 year-old-males were placed under arrest and detained at SAPS Verulam.

Faces of the suspects will be made public once the victims have pointed them out at an identification parade.
