On the 20th of January, LEAP officers in Hanover Park arrested a suspect for possession of a firearm that was discover to have been stolen in Strandfontein 3 months before.
On the 19th, LEAP officers operating in Khayelitsha arrested a suspect and recovered a ’22 caliber pistol.
All firearms recovered by CCT staff are handed over to the SAPS, who then assign a detective to the case. The firearm then needs to be sent to the SAPS Forensic lab for further ballistic testing and a report generated for the Investigating Officer in SAPS.
The I/O then needs to investigate the matter further, conclude the case docket and bring any accused person to trial.
With some detectives battling a case load of over 300 dockets, such priority cases may take time before the accused ever makes it back to court.
This is where we are ready to assist our SAPS even further, if granted the authority. By improving the turn around time to conclude these case files, we can ensure those guilty of violent crimes are convicted and removed from our society.
