The determination of police members to respond to valuable information resulted in the detention of three suspects when they were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in isolated incidents on Tuesday 21 January 2025.
Police members of Boland K9 Unit responded to a complaint of a burglary in progress involving two armed men and rushed to Wellington. Upon their arrival in Witteberg Street at about 06:12 they saw two men fleeing from the premises who fitted the description and gave chase on foot. The two suspects were apprehended, not far from the identified crime scene. When the members entered the crime scene, they recovered a 9mm pistol used by the suspects to commit the crime. They detained the two suspects for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Public Order Police members deployed in Vredenburg to quell the current gang violence in the area conducted disruptive stop and search operations in Middelpos informal settlement. They tactically entered an identified dwelling and searched the occupants and the entire premises which resulted in the recovery and confiscation of an assortment of ammunition. The 32-year-old man could not provide a license to be in possession of the ammunition which led to his detention for the unlawful possession of ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Paarl and Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges.
