On Monday morning, 20 January 2025 at about 05:00, Katlehong North Detectives and Ekurhuleni Metro Police together with the assistance of informers, traced possible suspects who are alleged to have been involved in a string of robberies where people were shot, murdered and robbed of their belongings since December 2024 to date.
This comes after the station management has assembled a team of Detectives, Ekurhuleni Metro Police, Crime Intelligence, Ekurhuleni K9 Unit, Ekurhuleni Highway patrol, Germiston Flying Squad, Gauteng Traffic Airwing and a team of informers to work on the case. The suspects were then traced to an informal settlement at Makalakaleni Mandela Park, where a number of shacks were identified and searched. The suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and a large quantity of drugs in plastic bags.
The investigation continues to establish a possible link between the suspects and the string of murders and robberies that took place in the area of Makalakaleni informal settlement. All four suspects, aged between 20 and 29, were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and drugs.
Katlehong North, Station Commander, Colonel Nomthandazo Gumbi praised the members and attributed the success to the Minister’s Cooperative Agreement which advocates for a whole government approach and encourages law enforcement agencies to be integrated in order to fight crime.
